Damaged tombstones at the Botkin Cemetery will be restored. Officials who allowed the violations have been identified, construction work has been stopped
Preliminary investigations have shown that during construction work carried out on the territory of the former champagne winery, the wall separating the site from the Botkin Cemetery collapsed. As a result, several tombstones in the last row of Sector 15 were damaged. The graves themselves were not opened.
The Tashkent City Khokimiyat and the City Landscaping Department have taken the situation under control. The construction work that was being carried out in violation of the rules has been stopped, and the responsible persons have been identified. A legal assessment will be given to the details of the incident and the actions of the responsible persons. The guilty parties will be held accountable in accordance with the procedure established by law.
We understand the grief and objections of the relatives of the deceased. It is essential to treat the memory of those who have passed away and the feelings of their relatives with respect.
The customer and the contracting organisation have been obliged to eliminate the consequences of the wall collapse and restore the damaged tombstones. They apologised and stated that they would complete the work by the end of the week. The progress of the work and the restoration process will be under our control. We will keep the public informed about the situation.
