“Green” light lasts longer — less waiting: The traffic light at the intersection of Fitrat and Heydar Aliyev Streets has been reconfigured
Specialists of the Road Traffic Organization Center (YHTEM) studied the traffic flow at the intersection and determined in which direction cars accumulate more. After that, the operating time of the traffic light was adjusted in accordance with the new load.
Previously, the first phase of the traffic light cycle lasted 35 seconds, and the second phase lasted 28 seconds. Now, on the busiest direction, the phase length has been extended from 35 seconds to 60 seconds.
In addition, cars in the opposite direction now stop a little earlier. This allows turning vehicles to complete the turn safely and clear the intersection faster. As a result, the traffic light lets more cars through during one cycle.
⏱️ The changes have produced results: during the day, the queue of cars has significantly decreased, traffic has become smoother, and the time to pass through the intersection has been reduced by up to 2 minutes.
🚂 There is a railway crossing nearby. When a train is passing, traffic is temporarily stopped. For this reason, cars may accumulate at the intersection for a short time.
YHTEM continues to monitor the situation. Specialists are preparing separate operating modes of the traffic light for morning and evening peak hours.
The next stage is the renewal of neighboring intersections and connecting their traffic lights to a single “Green Wave” system. As a result, cars moving at the permitted speed will be able to pass through the intersections one after another on a green light and stop less frequently.
